BONNEVILLE Returns to its Roots!

On Friday, BONNEVILLE opened at the Carmike Pineridge 10 in Chubbuck, Idaho – just down the road from Pocatello!

Those of you who have already seen BONNEVILLE know that Lange, Bates and Allen play three lifelong friends from the small town of Pocatello – which serves as the starting point of their journey across the great American West towards Santa Barbara, CA.

Why Pocatello? As the Idaho State Journal reports, BONNEVILLE screenwriter Daniel D. Davis is a “former Downey resident whose parents still live in the small community. He said that the three main characters are named for family members dear to him. Much of the movie also takes place in Davis’ old stomping grounds.”

Dan explains, “The inspiration for the principal characters came from my own life – my grandmother, Arvilla, my Aunt Carol and Margene Criddle, a close family friend. My grandmother was quite a few years younger than my grandfather. When he died, she seemed to lose her sense of purpose and interest in life. BONNEVILLE came from my desire for a happier ending, one where grief gives way to the realization that another life full of adventure and discovery lies ahead.”

The Journal continues to report that Dan earned a scholarship to Harvard University, graduated with a law degree from Georgetown and went to work for Citibank in Chicago. However, he wrote in his free time and sent his second screenplay to the Nicholl Fellowship, where it was a semifinalist: “‘I talked to a number of producers and agents,’ Davis said. ‘They told me that if I was serious about it then I had to move to LA.’ Instead he decided to keep his job in Chicago. But serendipity awaited Davis when he returned to Citibank. ‘I flew back to Chicago and my boss at Citibank said ‘Sorry Dan, Citibank reorganized our department and your job is gone,’ Davis said. That’s when he decided to make the ultimate commitment towards his dream and moved to Los Angeles.”
